GAIA TRIBAL BELLY DANCERS

Gaia Tribal is an Alaskan troupe formed in 2007 that performs a unique style of belly dance called Tribal Group Improv. The origins of this style come from American Tribal Style which was originated on the West coast by Carolena Nericcio, of Fat Chance Belly Dance and Collective Soul originated by Paulette Reese -Dennis of Gypsy Caravan in Portland. In this style of group improvisational choreography one dancer leads a series of cued dance movements while her fellow dancers follow. The lead dancer changes throughout the performance, creating the look of choreography. This style of dance incorporates traditional Middle Eastern dance with dance from other cultures and other barefoot dance forms from around the world while utilizing the idea of group improvisational choreography. This fusion of dance is displayed by the diverse and colorful costuming they wear. This creates an incredibly dynamic performance that can never be duplicated. Gaia believes deeply in the tribal philosophy which is founded on the strength of women and that dance is community based and interpretive within a set series of movements.

Aerial Acrobatics is an art form in which a person performs while suspended in the air.
